1. Why should you become a contributor?

We are looking for insightful and relevant content focused on data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence and, of course, feature stores. If you have written something related to these topics, share it with us!

By submitting your article to us, your content will be featured at our featurestore.org page to reach a broader audience. According to Google Analytics, our page received in 2020:

  • 22,000 Unique Daily Readers
  • 44,000 Pageviews

You also remain the only owner of your work, in accordance with the Medium Terms of Service that you agree to when creating a Medium account. This means you will be able to edit or delete your content at any moment, even after we have published it.

2. Submission guidelines

There are some important guidelines that you need to know before submitting your content. Make sure to read carefully the following points and to understand them. Once you submit your content, you agree to comply with the following:

  1. Medium’s Rules and Terms of Service also apply to Feature Store for ML (FSML).
  2. You’re the only person responsible for the content you create and publish. This means you assume all risks related to it, including someone else’s reliance on its accuracy, or claims relating to intellectual property or other legal rights.
  3. We value copyrights and violating them will not be accepted. It is your responsibility to ensure you own or have a legal right to use all content, images, and videos you include in your articles.
  4. We might edit your content to correct basic spelling mistakes and update minimal formatting, also we have the rights to remove images where the source isn’t clearly stated.
  5. We have adopted Medium’s Content Guidelines and Medium’s Curation Guidelines for every article we publish. This means that if your post isn’t of a high enough quality to be curated or doesn’t follow the guidelines, we won’t publish it on FSML.
  6. We can remove any articles you post on FSML for any reason and at any time. If we do so, your content will not be lost but still hosted on Medium.com and redirected there.

3. Tips for writing insightful articles

Are you interested to submit your content? Here are some tips for getting your articles published at FSML:

Do you bring a new approach, idea or discussion point?

Before you submit your content, ask yourself: am I submitting something new or has a topic with similar ideas been published at FSML?

We do not require exclusive articles and we are open to republish content originally published in other sources. But, we ask that you submit something that is new for our FSML page. If you have read many articles addressing the same issue or explaining the same concept, think twice before submitting your content to us. Conversely, if your article addresses an underserved area or presents a new idea or method, that’s just what we are after!

Promotional vs informative content

The main purpose of this page is to create a sustainable community with knowledge and curated content. As a non-commercial project we ask that you keep your content informative and not promotional. However, you may include in your conclusion the link to the original post and even one relevant video.

How should you structure your content?

All articles must include an eye-catching short title (aim for 30–40 words) and an insightful subtitle that explains in just a few words (50 to 100 words) what you will talk about.

With the overflow of content available nowadays, make sure the readers understand right from the start what you will talk about. Give a short and sharp introduction that tells our readers what is the main topic and why it is relevant for them.

Once you’ve introduced the topic with a short and sharp, you can discuss it as long as you would like, but make sure to stay on top of the takeaways that you want our readers to take from your article. Your article is more likely to be accepted if you include a background discussion on the topic (why are you bringing this up now?) and concrete examples that bring to life your new idea.

And do not forget your solid and non-commercial conclusion!

Best practices for including images and coding

Coding should not be copy and pasted as an image, but instead should use Medium’s code blocks & inline code. If you for any specific reason really require to include coding as an image (such as to highlight with different colours), make sure to be explicit and clear on what you’re referring to.

We cannot emphasise enough how important it is to include the source for your images! Make sure that all your images are sourced (even if you do not have to include it) with the name and hyperlink, and that you only include images that you’ve the rights to use.

Here are images sources where most images may be used without asking for the owner’s permission:

If you include an image for which you have purchased a license, make sure that the license never expires and that it can be used for commercial purposes on the TDS Publication.

Even better is to include an image or graph that you created yourself! If that’s the case, make sure to include yourself as the source for the image (Image by author) in the image’s caption.

How should you refer to other people’s work?

We encourage you to refer and generate a discussion of other content published! If you mention a specific idea or article, you should include a reference list at the bottom of your article containing: the references’ full names, date of publication and source. Also, make sure to include the source with a hyperlink so readers can check the information provided.
